SURVEY


The land for Kneeland Cemetery was owned by Thomas Kneeland.  In 1870, he donated 3 acres of his land in Section 27, Town 9, Range 5 West to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Vol. 23, page 1229.

When the Archdioces of LaCrosse was formed, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1872 deeded the 3 acres to the Archdiocese of LaCrosse.

Information from heasdstones, show burials from 1863 to 1884.

It was reported in the Kicapoo Chief newspaper of the day that some graves were "moved" from Kneeland cemetery to the St. Patrick Parish Cemetery in Seneca when that cemetery opened in 1874. 

The land tranactions are recorded in Crawford county. records.

In 2018/2019, a professional title search and a professional survey of the 3 acre cemetery  were undertaken.

The results confirmed the records as recorded with the county. Vol. 27, page 124.

The Kneeland Cemetery is registered with the State Historic Preservation Office in the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison, Wiscosin. Reference... the Burial Sites Preservation Law, Wisconsin Statute 157.70
